The first verified reference to this richly historical vineyard came in 1650. &#8216;Pulverm\u00e4cher&#8217; (powder maker) is an antiquated term for an explosives engineer, and the name derives from the nearby quarry where explosives work was common.<\/p>\n<p>Rugged sandstone soils with significant veins of iron form the core of this west-facing vineyard situated near the Y-burg. The heart of the site is located in the old stone terraces directly beneath the castle and which efficiently capture and store the heat of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Fruit for the Gro\u00dfes Gew\u00e4chs is carefully hand harvested into small containers and then spontaneously fermented in large wooden barrels.<\/p>\n<p>The Pulverm\u00e4cher Riesling has a distinctive set of aromas.\u00a0 There is a notable mineral cast to its acidity, helping convey a range of aromatic herbs reminiscent of anise and fennel.
